You take yourself too seriously. As Do I.
My work is vulgar and humorous manifestation of the ugly bits, to be taken not seriously and not not seriously. Sculptures in Simpsons yellow and pussy pink should make you laugh. I want you to laugh, and then feel ashamed of laughing.
Working across media my subject matter stays within the quotidian and the female figure, I’m probing with ideas of womanhood and playing with the stereotypes and baggage that come with it. Reclaiming and rebranding those stereotypes to address the sensitive talking points we don’t talk about. The subject matter is not nice, neither is the physical representation, juxtaposing perceptions of desirability and undesirability. My work is not elegant or beautiful, instead it is loud and superficial, just like most things in this era. Responding to the filtered images and curated lives we digitally share I create deliberate flaws, and expose faults both through subject matter and process.
